It is now possible to download movies directly from the internet. In order to do this you will need a broadband connection and some filesharing software (which you can download for free). Once you have the software you can then search and download movies for free. Any average movie is usually over 500MB, which means that on your average broadband connection should take between 12-24 hours to download.

Kazaa are the most popular file sharing program. It has been downloaded 250 million times and is easy to use. Kazaa has replaced Napster as the standard file sharing program for everyday use. If you only use P2P-programs to download a couple of MP3 songs or a movie every once in while, using Kazaa is a very good choice. There is a Kazaa clone called Kazaa Lite without adware. As the most used peer to peer software all kind of media files can be found on Kazaa. Most common are music in MP3 format, movies in DivX- or MPEG-format and computer software (games and other applications). One drawback with Kazaa is that it comes with several adware or spyware programs. The result being that pop up advertisments are launched while the program is used. Common with hubs that require each user to share 30 gigabytes or more of data which results in a lot of music (MP3), film (DivX) and games being shared. BitTorrent is a "plugin" to your favorite browser (IE, Mozilla, Opera) and launches automatically when you click on a .torrent-file. BitTorrent gives you speeds at or near the maximum speed of your Internet connection over long periods of time.

Gnutella is a popular file sharing network with several clients such as Morpheus, LimeWire, Bearshare, XoloX, Qtraxmax available.

eDonkey is a file sharing program that seems especially popular in Germany. Available for Windows and Linux.
